Travel to Athens
The first place you should visit for sightseeing in Greece is Athens. Spending just one afternoon there it is possible to visit some of the most interesting places. The Acropolis is the top attraction, along with the Roman Agora.
Starting with the Acropolis would be a very good decision. There, once you have passed the Propylaea–the majestic entrance to the enclosure–you will be fascinated by the Parthenon. Other temples include the Erechtheum and the Temple of Athena.
For its part, you should take a walk through the National Archaeological Museum, which treasures numerous finds from both sites in its invaluable collection of ancient art.
Already moving away from Athens, we recommend the regions of Peloponnese and Corinth, with Argolis, the Cyclopean gates, and the theater of Epidaurus, as well as the circuits that visit Olympia, Delphi, and the monasteries of Meteora in the region of Thessaly.
Finally, starting from the port of Piraeus, we find full-day excursions to the islands of Hydra, Poros, Aegina, Moni, Agistri, and Spetses.
Places of Interest in Athens
Temple of Poseidon in Athens
The sanctuary of Sounion (temple of Poseidon) is one of the most important constructions in Attica. It is at Cape Sounion, just 1-hour drive from the historic center of Athens (about 76 km). Visiting the famous temple of Poseidon requires a trip near the coast, where you can see an amazing view of the sea.
It is advisable to walk around Sounion at sunset, as it will allow you to admire the romantic sunset.
Athens City Bus Tour
As an additional option, you can make the bus trip from the Athens station. The cost of the tour is 12.50 €, with hours from 07:00 to 20:00 (except Sundays) and a travel time of 2 hours.
Visit to Monastiraki, Psirri
It is part of the historic area, has narrow streets, and is the site of the city's traditional bazaar (Yousouroum). Nearby is the famous neighborhood of Psyrri, known for its active nightlife, offering plenty of bars and clubs. You will also find shops with traditional crafts.
Visit the Plaka neighborhood
Without a doubt, the busiest neighborhood in Athens. It is east of the Acropolis and is known as "the neighborhood of the gods" for its important historical sites and museums. Walking through its narrow streets is almost a traditional walk when you visit Athens.
Propylaea of Athens
It is the architecture that serves as the entrance to the Acropolis of Athens, it was built on the ruins of another older propylaeum, around the year 437 BC.
Transports in Athens
You can get around Athens by metro, public bus, taxi, etc. You can also use the tram, a modern and economical system to move around the Greek capital (even outside the city). It offers routes close to the coast with views of the Saronic Gulf. The tram service in Athens operates between the hours of 5:30 am and 1:00 am, while the ticket price varies between 4 € and 22 €.

Athens is an extremely safe city to travel to. In fact, you will be able to observe in its streets a large number of police officers protecting the safety of tourists.
