Excursion Itinerary: Cape Sounion & Temple Of Poseidon

Cape Sounion is located in the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula. On the rock that dominates the Cape, Athenians used to worship the God of the seas, Poseidon and Athena, the patroness of Athens.
Due to its strategic location, Sounion was a natural observation point for seafaring vessels. According to legend, King Aegeus and his son Theseus agreed that, if Theseus killed the Minotaur, he would hoist white sails on his ship. However, Theseus, on his way back from Crete and overjoyed at his great feat, completely forgot about this. When Aegeus spotted the black sails in the open sea, believing that his son had perished, he fell to his death from the edge of the rock.
During the 65km drive to Cape Sounion, you will be thrilled by the natural beauty of the Athenian shoreline. On arrival at Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon, our guide will bring to life the resplendent history and mythology of this area.
After the visit to the Temple of Poseidon, you will have some free time to take in the beauty of the Cape before returning to Athens with the best memories of all experienced and learned during this amazing trip.
Greca Tip: Do not miss experiencing that tranquility that will move your soul enjoying the stunning sunset near the majestic temple of Poseidon.
