Hierapolis Highlights
Hierapolis is an ancient Hellenistic city located in present-day Pamukkale, known as the city of the cotton castle, in the province of Denizli, Turkey.
Although today we can only appreciate the ruins of Hierapolis, due to an earthquake that occurred in the place in the 14th century, this site is one of the most outstanding records of the ancient civilizations that inhabited the continent, especially the Hellenic people. and Roman.
That is why this archaeological site was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, in order to protect this fascinating heritage for future generations.
Some of the archaeological treasures that you will find in Hierapolis are temples dedicated to the Greco-Roman Gods, fountains, caves, Roman baths, tombs and even a magnificent theater.
In addition, this enclosure is located in the vicinity of the famous "Cotton Castle" of Pamukkale, as the travertine pools of the place are known. If you visit Hierapolis we recommend you visit both sites and thus get the best of both nature and the hand of man.
Hierapolis, as you will see, offers the possibility of completely immersing yourself in ancient times by walking among the ruins, and if you add to this the experience of swimming in the Cleopatra VIII pool and walking barefoot through the travertines, you get a magical and unrepeatable experience.
Visit Hierapolis
The best season to visit Turkey is from March to June, so we recommend that you take these months into account if you want to enjoy the ideal climate. Although in September and November you will find a more temperate climate, if you are not a sun lover.
Bring your sunscreen anyway, as the sun's reflection off the travertines can be overwhelming on your skin without good protection.
What to Eat and Drink in Hierapolis
The food in Hierapolis is very tasty, as it has a great gastronomic offer. Whether you want to sit down to eat in a restaurant or opt for street food, you will find the best of typical Turkish cuisine.
A delicious dish that we recommend you try is Dolma, which is made from vegetables, which are filled with meat, rice and spices. A true explosion of flavor that you will love.
Likewise, another delight that you can find on your trip is Kofta, a skewer made from seasoned minced meat that you will surely find very tasty.
And if what you want is to try a little of everything, order your typical Mezze in a restaurant, which consists of a selection of small dishes to taste different preparations in their small version.
And if you wonder what drink to accompany your meals with, the star of Turkey is tea, go ahead and try something different.
