Upon arrival in Istanbul, you will be transferred to the hotel in one of our vehicles.
After check-in, the rest of the day is free to begin discovering this fascinating city, where East and West meet among imperial mosques, centuries-old bazaars, and the unmistakable rhythm of the Bosphorus.
Greca Tip: You can also head to Ortaköy, the area for upmarket chic. There, you will find a strip of stands serving “kumpir,” Turkey's answer to the jacket potato. Pick your spud and toppings and savor the seaside views while you eat on your feet.

Your experience begins in the heart of Istanbul, where our official guide welcomes you for a journey into the soul of the Old City. From the very first steps through Sultanahmet Square, the history of two great empires—Byzantine and Ottoman—unfolds around you.
You’ll explore the legendary Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of the 6th century whose soaring dome has inspired architects for more than a millennium. Nearby, the Blue Mosque awaits with its elegant İznik tiles and six slender minarets that silhouette the sky. As you stroll through the ancient Hippodrome, your guide brings to life the chariot races, rival factions, and political intrigues that once animated this arena, still marked by the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, and the German Fountain.
Your visit concludes inside the Grand Covered Bazaar, a labyrinth of nearly four thousand shops where colors, scents, and craftsmanship blend into one of the world’s most vibrant marketplaces. After the tour, you are free to continue exploring this historic bazaar at your own pace.
Greca Tip: If you enjoy craftsmanship, ask to see a demonstration of handmade Turkish carpets—each one tells a story woven by generations.

Today you will discover the most iconic treasures of Istanbul on a journey that begins along the Golden Horn, the natural inlet that once served as the main harbor of the Byzantine Empire. From the bus, you will enjoy views of this historic waterway that separates the old city from the new, bordered by neighborhoods where Byzantine Jews, Italian merchants, and other non-Muslim communities once thrived.
As you continue through Balat, one of the city’s most traditional districts, you will see landmarks such as the striking Metal Church of St. Stephen the Bulgarian, the historic Jewish Hospital (Or-Ahayim), the Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, and the impressive Byzantine city walls—22 km of fortifications considered the strongest of the medieval era.
Your next stop is the vibrant Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Bazaar, where the air is filled with the fragrances of exotic herbs, teas, and colorful spices, alongside stalls selling fruits, flowers, and local delicacies.
The experience continues with a Bosphorus Cruise, sailing between Europe and Asia. As you glide along the strait, you will have the chance to photograph grand marble palaces, timeless wooden Ottoman mansions, and elegant modern residences. From the water, you will admire the Rumeli Fortress, a formidable structure built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, which remains one of the finest examples of Ottoman military architecture.
If time allows, the tour may include a brief visit to a traditional leather showroom before enjoying lunch in a typical Turkish restaurant.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the splendor of Topkapı Palace, the former residence of the Ottoman sultans. Here you will find the imperial treasury, sacred Islamic relics attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, collections of Chinese porcelain, ancient weapons, and exquisite calligraphy. (Please note: live guide commentary is not permitted in certain special sections, and the Harem is not included in the program.)
The tour concludes with a visit to Hagia Irene, located within the outer courtyard of Topkapı Palace. Considered the oldest church of the Eastern Roman Empire, this impressive Byzantine structure—second in size only to Hagia Sophia—was built in 330 on the site of an ancient temple and preserves the architectural essence of the era.
Tip Greca: The Spice Bazaar is one of the best places in the city to buy quality saffron—lightweight, easy to carry and with long-lasting aroma.
