At the agreed time we will meet in the centre of Paris, to start our journey to the famous Palace of Versailles.
Upon arrival, we will visit the King's Grand Apartments and the Queen's Grand Apartments, as well as the Coronation Hall and the Queen's Bedroom.
We will admire the spectacular Hall of Mirrors, an extraordinary room designed to receive guests. It is almost 73 metres long and was created to dazzle the visitors of Louis XIV, the Sun King. It is lit by 17 windows, some 350 mirrors and overlooks the palace's impressive gardens, the second part of the tour.
After touring the palace, we will explore the impressive French-style gardens on our own. In 1661, Louis XIV commissioned André Le Notre to design the gardens and exteriors, something as important to the king as the construction of the palace itself.
We will enjoy our free time to stroll through the gardens of Versailles and admire its 386 works of art (including more than 200 statues), fountains, ponds, flowerbeds and trees. During the summer months, various activities are organised, such as the Great Musical Fountains, a show in which the water in the fountains moves to the rhythm of the music.
Greca Tip: Versailles, before being a palace, was a hunting lodge. The land surrounding the Palace of Versailles, with an area of more than 12,000 hectares, was in a very favorable territory for hunting, so royalty began to frequent it as a recreational area. Until, in the 17th century, King Louis XIV became so fond of the place that he decided to transform an old hunting lodge into the sumptuous royal palace that is today Versailles.
