At the specified time, we will depart for our destination: the city of Toledo. This impressive city can be considered an open-air museum, where you can find Spain's main monuments.
Toledo is also known as the City of the Three Cultures, as Christians, Muslims, and Jews lived peacefully within its walls for an extended period. Its ancient Gothic and Renaissance architecture, narrow streets, and alleys, along with its excellent state of preservation, led to its declaration as a National Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage City.
Our guide will take us on a walking tour of the historic city of Toledo, where we'll explore its fantastic heritage and discover how the coexistence of cultures over the centuries influenced its current architectural style.
We'll admire the building sponsored by Queen Isabel of Castile to become a royal mausoleum, the most important construction commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs. Following the visit, we'll walk to the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. Originally built as a synagogue, it was expropriated and converted into a church only 211 years after opening its doors. Today, it is a fantastic Mudéjar-style museum that we will visit.
In the church of Santo Tomé, we can admire the famous Burial of the Count of Orgaz, a masterpiece by the globally renowned Doménikos Theotokópoulos, also known as El Greco.
Our guided tour will conclude in front of the Cathedral of Toledo, considered the most important Gothic-style cathedral in Spain.
Finally, before returning to Madrid, we will have free time to continue enjoying the ancient capital of Spain.
Greca Tip: Toledo is a city best explored on foot through its streets and corners, so we recommend wearing comfortable footwear to not miss any attractions.
