Excursion Itinerary: Akrotiri Excavations, Oia & Santorini Private Tour

PRIVATE HALF DAY TOUR IN AKROTIRI
PRIVATE HALF DAY TOUR IN AKROTIRI

Depending on the location of your accommodation, you will either be picked up from your hotel or the closest accessible point in order to begin our private tour of the beautiful island of Santorini. Please note that if you arrive on a cruise ship, the pickup will be from the top of the cable car.

You will drive through the traditional village of Pyrgos, once the medieval capital and the highest point in the island.
You will go to the Prophet Elijah monument, where you will stop at a scenic spot, which on a clear day, one can see all of the 24 islands and islets of the Cycladic archipelago.
Afterwards you will go through the villages of Megalochori and Akrotiri to our destination the archaeological site of Akrotiri. Akrotiri was a settlement, which was buried in lava after the massive eruption of the Santorini volcano in the 16th century BC. The experience of walking through the streets of a city that was alive more than 3500 years evokes feelings full of admiration for these urban residents and at how advanced their civilization was.

Leaving the archaeological site, we will go on to our last stop, where we will appreciate another splendid view of the island. There, right before us, we will have the Caldera and the picturesque villages that perch on the verge of the steep cliffside.

Finally, you can either choose to return to your hotel, at the top of the cable car station or simply linger a little longer in the town of Fira.

Greca Tip: You can use the cable car to travel from Fira to the old port and admire the amazing view of the stunning caldera, the sea and the volcano from a 220 meters altitude.
