The trip to the Troodos mountains is a trip to another Cyprus. Rustic stone villages dot wooded valleys where the traditional way of life still prevails. This excursion will take you to the spiritual heart of the highlands, Kykkos Monastery, and Throni Hill.
As you delve into the depths of Troodos, you will find lush landscapes that contrast with the arid coast. After a coffee in the town of Eledio, you arrive at the star of the show, the Kykkos monastery.
Perched on Mount Kykkos, the monastery is packed with religious treasures, and you won't be able to take your eyes off the gilded icons and frescoes, except for the icon of the Virgin Mary. The last time it was seen was hundreds of years ago. You will also have free time to walk around the grounds and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains.
Next, you will visit the tomb of Archbishop Makarios III at the top of the hill. Magnificent views will welcome you before you descend to the village of Pedoulas. Here you will enjoy a typical Cypriot lunch made with local ingredients in a family restaurant. There will be time for an optional walk to the richly decorated Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, and then you will return and make a coffee stop at Pano Platres.
