In the morning, we will depart from Madrid towards the city of the three cultures, Toledo. We will walk through the streets of this city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. You will have the opportunity to admire the building commissioned by Queen Isabella of Castile to serve as a royal mausoleum, the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, the most important construction carried out by the Catholic Monarchs. We will continue with a visit to the Cathedral and some free time to explore the city at your own pace.
We will then continue to the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. Originally built as a synagogue, it was expropriated and converted into a church just 211 years after it opened. Today, it is a remarkable Mudejar-style museum that we will visit.
Toledo’s fascinating blend of cultures will surprise you at every step, with its rich architectural and cultural heritage. You may also visit the Church of Santo Tomé, home to one of El Greco’s most famous masterpieces, and immerse yourself in the history of a city shaped by the coexistence of Christians, Muslims, and Jews.
We will then return to Madrid, where you will have approximately one hour for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will travel to Segovia. We will park very close to the Aqueduct, which will be the first monument we encounter in the city. Formed by 167 arches, it is considered one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in the world.
Next, we will enjoy a walking tour of the city, beginning at the Plaza Mayor, home to several important buildings such as the Segovia Town Hall and the Juan Bravo Theatre, although the main highlight is the Cathedral, whose interior we will visit on a fully guided tour.
The tour will then continue to the Alcázar, one of the best-preserved and most famous medieval castles in the world. It is even said to have inspired Walt Disney in some of his films, including Cinderella’s Castle and the Queen’s Castle in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Greca Tip: In Toledo, take a moment to enjoy a marzipan sweet from a traditional bakery — this centuries-old delicacy is one of the city’s most iconic flavors. In Segovia, if time allows, try the famous cochinillo asado, a local specialty prepared following age-old traditions.
