The Port of Souda is the most important in Chania. It is one of the deepest natural ports in the Mediterranean. The bay is surrounded on both sides by hills, with a relatively low and narrow isthmus in the west near Chania. Almost at the entrance of the bay, between the peninsula of Akrotiri and the city of Kalives, there is a group of small islands with Venetian fortresses that were built in the 15th century. Souda is famous not only for the movie "For Your Eyes Only", one of James Bond films, but also for its history, as it was the last place still free when Crete was invaded. Besides, it was the first place where the Greek flag was raised after the unification of Crete and Greece.
The cruise starts from the Marine Sports Center in Souda. Leaving the marine it moves to Souda historical cemetery, a World War I monument dedicated to the people who helped Crete to free itself from the invaders. The ship continues towards the gulf entrance passing through the legendary historical islet of Souda.
The first stop is Almirida beach where you will have time to enjoy a morning dip in the superb waters of this unspoilt and quiet resort. After a refreshing swim, the boat will head to the caves of Cape Drepano, which have been sculpted by the waves of the sea. The size of the caves allows the boat to enter inside and allows you to see the "miracle" created by nature.
After this natural and remarkable experience, the boat heads to Marathi beach, where you will have plenty of time to enjoy this beautiful sandy beach and also to visit the monuments in the area. On the way back, the boat passes extremely close to Souda Island, where you can take photos and also hear your guide recount the history of the island.
After a wonderful day you will return to the port to be taken back to our hotel.
