After a delicious breakfast and a presentation at our meeting point, we will enjoy a visit to the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, an architectural complex declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 16th century, it was a symbol of royal power at that time.
Accompanied by our guide at all times, we will explore the most important rooms of the monument. With its Renaissance style, the symmetry of the building will amaze us. We will be able to visit the Habsburg Palace, the Chapter House, the Basilica, and the extraordinary library.
Next, we will continue our journey to visit the Valley of the Fallen. The site is located 9 kilometers from El Escorial, in the Sierra de Guadarrama. We will be able to see it from a distance thanks to the monumental cross built on the site. The monument is an underground basilica built into the mountain. It is crowned by the largest cross in the world, visible from kilometers away.
Greca Tip: El Escorial was built because Philip II wanted to fulfill his father's wish not to be buried in the Cathedral of Granada, where the Catholic Monarchs are buried.
