Excursion Itinerary: Agrigento & Piazza Armerina From Palermo

The departure of your excursion will be from one of the meeting points closest to your own hotel. You will head towards Piazza Armerina to visit the famous Villa Romana del Casale dating back to the late 4th century AD. C. The villa belonged to an important Roman family, located about 3 km from the city of Piazza Armerina. Excavations have revealed one of the richest, largest and most varied collections of Roman mosaics in the world which is why the site has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will continue in the direction of Agrigento to visit the magnificent Valley of the Temples, erected by the Greeks during the 5th century BC. C. Much of the excavation and restoration of the temples was due to the efforts of the archaeologist Domenico Antonio Lo Faso Pietrasanta (1783-1863), who was Duke of Serradifalco from 1809 to 1812. The Valley includes remains of seven temples, all in the Doric style. The attribution of names, in addition to that of the Olympeion, is a mere tradition established in the Renaissance period.
At the end of the visit to the Valley and after having immersed yourselves in this part of the Italian history and past, you will return to Palermo.
Tip Greca: In the western part of the valley there are other ruins such as cemeteries, tombs and catacombs that will impress you, do not miss it!
