Kefalonia, also called Cephalonia, is west of mainland Greece, on the Ionian Sea. It has an area of 786 km2 and around 36,000 inhabitants.
This island is characterized by its cliffs full of vegetation, bays, and narrow strips of white sand.
The capital of Kefalonia is Argostoli, whose port has connections to multiple Greek destinations. Thanks to the geographical location of the island, you can easily move to different destinations from there.
The island of Kefalonia has five ports that you must know if you plan a vacation in the Ionian archipelago.
More importantly, we find the port of Sami, which has connections to islands such as Corfu and Patras. It is located in the northeast of the island and the distance between Sami and Argostoli by road is 26 km.
In the southeast, it is possible to find the port of Poros, to which ships from Kyllini arrive.
In the capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, you will find another port, albeit with limited facilities. Cruise ships that arrive here usually transfer their passengers by boat. It is a 2-minute drive from the city center.
The island also has the ports of Pessada and Fiskardo, which have seasonal connections to other locations such as Lefkada and Zakynthos.
As in other neighboring islands, some of the beaches to see in Kefalonia are not easily accessible without using a ferry. However, some of them do. We recommend some of the most beautiful beaches on the island that are easily accessible.

It is a very quiet Cefalea beach, recommended to go if you are looking for a day of complete relaxation. It is located in the north of the island.
Also called “Petanoi”, it is located northwest of the municipality of Paliki and the closest town is Lixouri. It has a circular shape and is surrounded by hills.
According to travellers, this is perhaps the most famous beach in Kefalonia and even the most beautiful in Greece! If you spend a day there, you can both get to know it and bathe in its turquoise waters, with a view of the spectacular nature around it.
This beach is striking for its orange sand, extremely wet, which thousands of travelers use as mud for body treatments. Another unmissable fact about this area is its pinkish sunsets.
