Package Tour Itinerary: Seven Churches

After your arrival in the city that was once Byzantium (and later Constantinople), your English-speaking assistant will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in one of our private vehicles.  He will help you with the check-in, inform you about all the details of your trip, offer a brief presentation of the city and its day to day life and answer your questions. The rest of the day will be free for you to relax and start enjoying this stunning city.

Alternatively, you can join the Night Cruise on the Bosphorus with Dinner & Show or enjoy an hour's pampering at the Hamam Cimberlitas.

Greca Tip: You can also head to Ortaköy, the area for upmarket chic, where you will find a strip of stands serving kumpir, Turkey's answer to the jacket potato. Pick your spud and toppings and savor the seaside views while you eat on your feet.

After your breakfast, at the agreed time, we will pick you up from your hotel, or the nearest pick-up point, to begin a full-day tour of this magnificent city. It includes an official English-speaking guide, tickets, lunch at a central city restaurant and a visit to the most resplendent monuments that the Ottoman, Byzantine, and Roman empires have handed down to future generations: Hagia Sophia, Constantinople Racecourse, The Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar, which houses more than 4000 stores.

At the end of the visit, you may linger some more in the old city, enjoying the amazing atmosphere, and finally you will make your own way to your hotel.

Greca Tip: Visit Camilca Hill on the Asian side of Istanbul and enjoy a panoramic view of the city, the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus.

Breakfast and morning free. In the afternoon and at the indicated time, transfer to the airport to board your flight to the city of Izmir, the second most important port in the country and the second most populated city in Turkey. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel in Izmir.

Greca Tip: Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes when traveling in the Inland of Turkey.

After a tasty breakfast, the trip to Pergamon will start, a World Heritage Site, and one of the sites of the Seven Churches (Rev. 1:11; 2:12). You will have the chance to explore the impressive Acropolis, the steepest theater in the world, the Asclepion, the famous medical center of the classical era, you will also admire the Altar of Zeus, mentioned at the Throne of the Beast, in the book of Revelation, the marble of the columns of the Trajan's temple and library, one of the most important in the world and a strong rival to that of Alexandria in Egypt. Its volumes are estimated at more than 200,000 copies and it is believed that the origins of the parchment can be traced here. You will also visit the Red Basilica (Church dedicated to Saint John).

Then you will continue to Thyatira, now called Akhisar, another of the Seven Churches (Rev. 1:11; 2: 18-24; Acts. 16:14) a city famous for its dyers, skillful in the use of the red [variety of purple] dye. There you will visit the ruins of the basilica and some architectural remains from the Roman period.

Before checking in at your hotel in Izmir, you will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, Turkey's third-largest and another of the Seven Churches sites (Rev. 2: 12-17). Izmir is a city marked by a bloody history of trade and war. You will climb Mount Pagus to visit the Citadel of Lysimachos, commander of Alexander the Great, erected in the 4th century BC. You will also see the historic Clock Tower and one of the main landmarks of the city.

Upon arrival at your hotel you will have dinner and enjoy a good night's sleep.

Greca Tip: On this intense and fascinating day, do not forget to wear comfortable shoes, carry water, and charge your phone battery for endless snapshots of these mythical places.

After breakfast you will leave for one of the most picturesque areas of the Seven Churches (Rev. 1:11; 3: 1-4). Sardes was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia in the 6th century BC, portrayed as a dying church. You will visit the great Temple of Artemis and the Temple of Cibeles, which became a Byzantine Church. You will also visit the old Lycian houses, the restored gymnasium and the reconstructed Synagogue. Then you will see the last meters of the Royal Persian Road from Susa to Sardes, built by Cyrus the Great and the Rio Dorado de Pactolos.

You will continue to Philadelphia, now called Alaşehir, another of the cities of the Seven Churches (Rev. 1:11; 3: 7), and the only church that was not censored. You will see the remains of the Byzantine basilica built in brick, with a large arch and frescoes from the 11th century. Then you will travel to the city of Hierapolis, now called Pamukkale, the white "Cotton Castle", where hot mineral water comes out from the ground and falls in the form of waterfalls over pools, in canals and stalactites. Therapeutic waters were found by the founders of Hierapolis and Laodicea in 190 BC. In Hierapolis (Col. 4:13) you will visit the Martyrdom of the Apostle Philip where he was mortified during the Domitian persecutions. We will follow Laodicea (present Denizli), another of the Seven Churches (Rev. 1:11; 3:14; Col. 2: 1; 4: 13-16). You will visit the old theater, the remains of the Basilica and the old stone water pipes. You will visit the Domitian gate, the Arcadian road, the 2nd century AD Theater, the Nymphaion, the Temple of Apollo, the Plutonium and the Acropolis. You will arrive at your hotel in Pamukkale, have dinner and a good rest.

Greca Tip: Don't miss a visit to the beautiful white travertines in Pamukkale and make sure you get Dondurma, a sticky ice cream made with mastic and salep flour.

After a delicious breakfast, you will travel to Ephesus, where you will visit the ancient city and many of its glorious monuments as well as the Basilica of Saint John and the Archaeological Museum of Ephesus. The Apostle Saint Paul lived here for three years and preached the word of God to its residents. According to tradition, the Apostle Paul also wrote the Letter to the Ephesians, the tenth book of the New Testament, while he was in prison in Rome.

You will have the great opportunity to go through the spectacular ruins where excavations still continue in this important and unique city, founded in the 10th century BC. Going back in time you will walk on marble streets with magnificent public buildings, such as the Baths of the Scholasticism, the Library of Celsius, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Theater. The Temple of Diana of the Ephesians, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, was built in this city. You also will visit the Basilica of Saint John, the House of the Virgin Mary, and finally you will be transferred to the airport to board the flight back to Istanbul.

Our representative will be waiting for you at Istanbul airport and will transfer you to your hotel in the city centre.

Greca Tip: Enjoy a Hamam bath experience or a spectacular dinner on a Bosphorus cruise to feel more and more like a true Istanbulian.

You will enjoy your breakfast and, at the time indicated, we will transfer you to Istanbul airport to board your international flight.

From all of us at Greca, we wish you a safe journey and hope to see you again soon to create more wonderful moments that will be etched in your memory forever.

Have a nice trip! Or you may also say: "Iyi yolculuklar!"

Greca Tip: If you think that your stay in Istanbul was too short, you can add additional nights at the time of your booking.
