Lefkada, the Turquoise Jewel of the Ionian Sea
Lefkada is an island of Greece located in the Ionian Sea. Unlike other Greek islands, it is connected to the mainland by a bridge.
It is characterized by its turquoise waters, its ideal beaches for windsurfing, its traditional villages, and its paradisiacal landscapes.
It has a total area of 325 km2, more than 23,000 inhabitants and its capital is Lefkada Town.
Getting to Lefkada
As we mentioned before, the way to get to the island of Lefkada is by ferry (the most common) or by car (thanks to the bridge that connects the island to the mainland). There is also the possibility of taking a public transport service to Lefkada from Athens and Thessaloniki. This trip lasts approximately 4 hours.

To move around the island, we recommend that you rent a car or request a private transfer. There is also the possibility of getting around through specialized tours in the area.
Sleep in Lefkada
The best area to stay in Lefkada is undoubtedly Lefkada Town, due to its availability of accommodation and geographical positioning. Another important point to take into account is the town of Vasiliki, much less congested than the capital, although further away from ferry connections and monuments.
In any case, thanks to the roads, it is well connected and has all kinds of services.

There are the most sought-after restaurants in the area, as well as the point from which boats set sail to other islands in the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas. It is a fairly developed town, although it retains its buildings and traditional touches, making it ideal for visitors.
It is the second town with more inhabitants. It has direct access to the rest of the island, so it is a good opportunity to take into account in case you cannot find accommodation in the capital of the island. It has an ideal beach for surfing and small boats.
It is an alpine village in the interior of Lefkada. If what interests you is to know the roots of the island, you must know it. It has traditional constructions and extremely authentic streets. Other towns similar to this one are Exanthia and Karya.
