Excursion Itinerary: Ghosts And Mysteries Of Rome

The ghosts and mysteries that are hidden in a city like Rome have perhaps always scared us a little. The Eternal City is famous for its thousand-year history made of battles, conquests, intrigues and mysteries, of great heroes and restless souls who do not want to leave the scene with the passage of time. We will believe that they still move through the alleys, bridges and squares of this mysterious and sometimes ghostly capital city.
Once we show up at the meeting point, our adventure begins at Castel Sant'Angelo, where we will appreciate its imposing exterior. This place is known for its prisons where nobles, artists and common criminals lived. Once we leave the Castle, we will continue along Via del Governo Vecchio, in the heart of the historic center, to reach Piazza Pasquino. There we will find the statue of an ancient Greek hero, or what remains of him: a bust and a “bloated” face. Leaving the statue, we arrive at the magnificent Piazza Navona. Restless souls also hover over the next stop, the Pantheon, a masterpiece of Roman engineering, first a pagan temple and then a Catholic church. Finally we will arrive at Piazza della Minerva. In its center since 1667, we can admire the obelisk of La Minerva placed on the back of a small elephant known as "The little elephant of Minerva". A little further we will find Largo di Torre Argentina, where the great Julius Caesar was assassinated; one of the most eclectic and important figures of the Roman Empire, who still brings many mysteries with him. We will end our tour in Piazza Mattei, which takes its name from the Giacomo Mattei palace that dominates it.
The tour ends in Piazza Mattei, we will return to the hotel on our own.
Greca Tip: Perhaps Rome's most famous ghost is that of Beatrice Cenci, a young late-Renaissance Roman noblewoman whose tragic story inspired painters including Guido Reni, poets, and novelists such as Shelley and Stendhal.
