Excursion Itinerary: Tinos From Mykonos

Your tour begins at the new port of Mykonos, where you will set sail for approximately 45 minutes to the nearby island of Tinos, the sacred island for the Greeks, since the major Cathedral of the Virgin Mary, Evangellistria is located there.
Upon your arrival your official tour guide will explain the importance of this Greek spiritual center. On this island inhabited since ancient times, you will have the chance to visit its most important sites, starting from the Evangellistria Cathedral in Tinos town. There you will you will feel the power of the icon, which is considered miraculous and is adorned by pilgrims' offerings representing their wishes, usually for good health.
Your next stop will be the women's monastery Kechrovouni, high up in the mountains, a big edifice looking like a fortified village and inhabited by 40 nuns. There you can see the cell of nun Pelagia, and a museum where several remarkable icons from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as other important heirlooms, are kept. You will then visit the tiny village Volax, located in the interior of the island, with houses that are built onto the rocks and home of the basket weavers. Later on, you will be able to get a glimpse of the different eras throughout the history of the island, visiting the valley of the pigeon houses, constructed by the Venetians.
Moreover, our next stop to the village of Pyrgos, which means castle in Greek, can surprise even the most demanding traveler. This village is built up in the mountains and it literally is the center of the marble carving tradition. According to the legend, the famous sculptor of the ancient times, Fidias, had taught the secrets of his art to the locals. Their admirable craft is displayed in chapels, fountains, arches and pigeon lofts. Departing from there, you will notice that the scenery changes continuously between traditional villages and views over the Aegean Sea and of the surrounding islands.
Your return back to the Port of Mykonos will be at approximately 22:10 hrs.
Greca Tip: There are strict clothing rules for the visits to the church and monastery. Sleeveless shirts and shorts are not permitted. Men must wear long trousers and women must wear skirts or trousers that reach below the knee.
