Your Belgrade Walking Tour will start from the National Parliament, an impressive building erected in the early 20th century and a testament to Serbia’s turbulent history. Opposite the Parliament, you will see the Old Palace and the New Palace, former residences of the Obrenović and Karađorđević royal dynasties, and today, the seat of the City Parliament and the President of the Republic of Serbia.
Next, you will visit Nikola Pašić Square to learn about Nikola Pašić, a key figure in modern Serbian history who helped establish the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes.
Your journey continues to Terazije Square, a central meeting point in Belgrade since the late 19th century. Here, you will hear about the Hotel Moskva, which has hosted famous scientists, artists, and state officials, and even two camels that accompanied a high-profile guest from Africa. Nearby, you will also note the Albania Chamber, a historical building from 1939.
You will then reach Republic Square, the heart of the city, dominated by the Prince Mihailo Monument. This square is flanked by the National Theatre and the National Museum, making it a cultural hub of Belgrade.
Walking along the lively Knez Mihailo Street, Belgrade’s main pedestrian and shopping area, you will arrive at the city’s main church, where some of Serbia’s most significant historical figures are buried. Across from the church is the building of the Patriarch, housing the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as the city’s oldest bar, known as “Question Mark -?”, and the Mansion of Princess Ljubica, which now serves as a museum.
The tour will conclude at Kalemegdan Fortress, the most important historical and cultural complex in the city. Set on the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the fortress offers a rich historical narrative and beautiful views. You will finish at the outermost part of the fortress, where you can admire the monument to the Victor, a symbol of the city created by the famous sculptor Ivan Meštrović.
Greca Tip: Kalemegdan Fortress offers stunning panoramic views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
