Cruise Itinerary: Idyllic

1
ATHENS - CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION

After your arrival in the mythical city of Athens, the transfer to your hotel will be conducted in one of our private vehicles. A member of our English speaking team will meet you at your hotel, help you with the check-in, inform you of all the details of your trip, introduce you to the city and its everyday way of life and answer any questions you may have. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy Athens at your own pace.

In the evening you will join our walking tour, where you will have the chance to see and hear about the history of many important landmarks in the most charming areas of Athens, such as Anafiotika, Tiseo, Monastiraki, and Plaka. In this way you will see Athens from a different perspective.

Greca Tip: Extend your stay by adding nights at Step 1 of 3!

MYKONOS CRUISE - SAILING THE AEGEAN LIKE ODYSSEUS
2
MYKONOS CRUISE - SAILING THE AEGEAN LIKE ODYSSEUS

In the morning and after a tasty breakfast, one of our vehicles will be waiting for you along with your assistant to transfer you to the port of Piraeus, where you will embark on your cruise ship. During the cruise, you will enjoy the brilliance of the sun, the deep blue of the Aegean and take part in the activities offered. In this package, Greca includes three meals, two excursions, and unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.  In this way your only concern will be how to make the most of it and have a great time.

Your first destination will be the famous island of Mykonos where the cruise ship will dock from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Mykonos is the meeting point of the international "jet set" for its wonderful beaches, dazzling shops, and vibrant nightlife that contribute to its well-deserved reputation.

Moreover, you may also wish to visit the historic island of Delos, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis according to the Greek mythology. This small island, inhabited since 3000 a.C., was one of the most significant cultural centers of Antiquity.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to pre-book other excursions organized by the cruise company before continuing your cruise in the wonderful Greek islands.

Greca Tip:

CRUISE KUSADASI AND PATMOS
3
CRUISE KUSADASI AND PATMOS

At 07:30 am, after a calm and comfortable night's cruising, you will awaken at the Turkish coast and in the port of Kusadasi. The starting point of your shore excursion will be the ancient city of Ephesus once visited by Saint Paul, Marc Antony, and Cleopatra, among others.  Ephesus was one of the twelve Ionian cities and flourished as an important cultural, religious and commercial center.

At noon, the cruise will depart again, this time to the island of Patmos where Saint John wrote the Apocalypse and Jesus Christ was revealed to him in the Grotto of the Apocalypse. From 5:45 to 21:00 pm, you will have the time to visit the cave, the monastery dedicated to Saint John and to stroll in the port of this small but so important island.

ACROPOLIS OF LINDOS AND COLOSSUS OF RHODES
4
ACROPOLIS OF LINDOS AND COLOSSUS OF RHODES

After a peaceful night's sailing, you will waken in the famous island of Rhodes, which once hosted one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, "the Colossus of Rhodes".

From your arrival, at about 07:00 am until your departure at 6:00 p.m. you will have a whole day to explore the renowned medieval town of Rhodes, recognised by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, the Acropolis of Lindos or simply lay back and enjoy the natural beauty of the largest island in the Dodecanese island complex.

THE MINOTAUR CRUISE OF HERAKLION & SANTORINI
5
THE MINOTAUR CRUISE OF HERAKLION & SANTORINI

After a generous breakfast, you will awaken in the largest Greek island, Crete. More precisely you will start your day in Heraklion, the capital of the island and home of King Minos and his minotaur. This city was the most significant of the Minoan civilization, with the oldest palatial complex in Europe, the Palace of Knossos.

Free morning and then around noon we will depart for the amazing and picturesque island of Santorini. As our cruise ship approaches the island we are filled with admiration and awe. It is the perfect moment to capture the beauty of the capital city of Fira and its white houses overhanging the cliff that overlooks the volcano. From 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. you will be able to explore it through its winding narrow streets and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, from one of the numerous pastry and coffee shops burgeoning on the hillside.

VISIT OF THE CITY WITH ACROPOLIS, TEMPLE OF ZEUS AND THE TRILOGY
6
VISIT OF THE CITY WITH ACROPOLIS, TEMPLE OF ZEUS AND THE TRILOGY

Upon arrival at the port of Piraeus, early in the morning, one of our vehicles will drive you to the center of Athens where the panoramic visit of the city will begin at the Neo-classical Athenian center: the Parliament, the tomb of the unknown soldier, the University, the Library, and the National Academy, the Ilion Palace, the Temple of Zeus, the Hadrian's Gate, the Panathenaic Stadium and many other monuments and places of interest that your official English-speaking guide will explain to you in detail. Current topics will also be discussed. After the panoramic visit, you will visit the "sacred rock", the spectacular, unique and magnificent Acropolis. The entrance fees to the sites we will visit are included.

At the end of the tour, you can either choose to return to your hotel, visit the Acropolis Museum or even make your own adventure through the picturesque streets of Plaka. At night, a night walking-tour through the most charming areas of Athens such as Anafiotika, Tiseo, Monastiraki, and Plaka is included.

FROM ATHENS TO OLYMPIA - CRADLE OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES
7
FROM ATHENS TO OLYMPIA - CRADLE OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Today you will head towards the Corinth Canal, where you will stop briefly to marvel at this famous channel that connects the Aegean with the Ionian Sea and take some photos.  Corinth Canal is an impressive engineering feat because ships do not have to sail more than 400 km around the Peloponnese peninsula to reach the Ionian Sea any longer.

Past hills and mountains, you will reach Epidaurus, where you will be immersed in the culture of the 4th century BC. Its world famous Theater is the best preserved ancient theater in Greece. Its construction was not planned as a separate site but was part of the therapeutic and healing process, achieved through the theatrical performances.  Known for its acoustics, it has a capacity of about 16,000 spectators and is still in use, especially during the summer, where notable performances are staged by native and international artists.

Then, you will briefly stop at the first capital of Greece, Nauplion, and continuing your journey back in time, you will visit the Acropolis of Mycenae, the center of the Mycenaean civilization.  In the enclosure you will see its cyclopean walls, the Lions Gate, various tombs of ancient kings, the Palace, the Cistern and its 99 steps underground, the Tomb of Egisto and the tomb of Clytemnestre, while next to the Acropolis you will see the Tomb, attributed to the King Agamemnon.

In the afternoon you will travel through central Peloponnese and arrive in the city of Olympia in the early evening.

Dinner and accommodation.

FROM OLYMPIA TO THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD - DELPHI
8
FROM OLYMPIA TO THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD - DELPHI

In the morning you will visit the site of the old Olympic stadium, where the first games were held around 776 BC. The importance of these games was apparent, given the extensive participation of the Greek cities, which suspended hostilities throughout the celebrations. The Olympiad was recognized as the only accepted chronological event all over Greece and, in essence, it constituted the period of four years between two consecutive events.

Olympia was also the most important sanctuary of Ancient Greece, a place to worship Zeus, the first among the gods. A gigantic sculpture in gold and ivory was made by Phidias and was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. After your visit to the Museum of Olympia, you will continue your journey to Delphi passing by a modern engineering wonder, the suspension bridge of Rio - Antirion.

Arrival at Delphi, have dinner and rest.

Greca Tip: In the evening you can discover the traditional character of nearby Arachova and enjoy a drink in a stylish café or a local kafeneio (coffee shop).

FROM THE ORACLE TO METEORA, KALAMBAKA
9
FROM THE ORACLE TO METEORA, KALAMBAKA

In the morning and after a solid breakfast you will visit Delphi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the center or navel of the ancient world.  It was here where the renowned Oracle of Delphi, a counsellor of kings and pilgrims, could be found. You cannot miss out on a visit to the museum, which houses the "bronze charioteer", a masterpiece of Greek sculpture.

At the end of your Delphi tour, you will leave the slopes of Mount Parnassus, and head towards the plains of Thessaly, where the city of Kalambaka is located.

Arrival in Kalambaka, dinner and accommodation.

Greca Tip: The nearby village of Arachova is ideal for shopping local products, such as the traditional woven carpets, honey and the local formaela cheese.

FROM KALAMBAKA TO ATTICA - ATHENS
10
FROM KALAMBAKA TO ATTICA - ATHENS

Early in the morning you will visit Meteora, also recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1988.  In this mysterious landscape, the natural beauty is combined with the compelling presence of the eternal monasteries suspended or "meteora" on top of the huge rocks. Currently there remain only six in use, five for the male and one for the female monastic community.

On the way back to Athens, you will pass by Thermopylae, where you can see the statue of the Spartan King Leonidas I, famous for leading the battle against the Persians in 480 BC. Arrival in Athens in the afternoon and drop off at your hotel.

Greca Tip: Dresscode in the monasteries: Sleeveless clothing and shorts over the knee for men are prohibited. For ladies skirts and shawls are available at the entrance in case they don’t have such clothing to cover themselves.

ATHENS - FAREWELL, GOODBYE GREECE!
