ARRIVAL IN PALERMO

Upon your arrival in Palermo, the capital of Sicily, one of our vehicles will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you comfortably and quickly to your hotel. The rest of the day will be free for you to relax and begin enjoying Palermo at your own pace. Dinner is included at your hotel. 

Greca Tip: As a culmination of your gastronomic experience, try cannoli, the king of traditional Sicilian desserts.

After enjoying a buffet breakfast, you will depart for Cefalu, meaning head or top, on the northern coast of Sicily, a former fishing village which is also home to a breathtaking Norman Cathedral, famous for its Mosaic of Christ Pantocrator – a stunning Byzantine mosaic that’s considered as one of the most important pieces of religious artwork in Sicily, built by Roger II, the Norman in 1131 and now a World Heritage Site. Take a stroll to the city centre and down main street to reach the Cathedral and the medieval wash-house built in the rock where you will be thrown back in time, among songs screamed by the Sicilian laundresses, busy in their daily ritual.

You will continue to Taormina, and have lunch along the way in a local restaurant. Then you will have the whole afternoon in Taormina, a charming city called "the pearl of the Ionian Sea" praised by Goethe in his book Italian Journey and a mandatory stop on the Grand Tour of the young European aristocracy. You will enjoy time at leisure for shopping or walking through its tiny streets. There you will have the chance to visit the Greek-Roman Theatre on your own, with its spectacular view of Giardini Naxos and Etna volcano.

At the agreed time the tour will continue to Catania. You will then check in at your hotel in Catania, enjoy a delicious dinner and have a good night's sleep.  

Greca Tip: You can admire the blue sea of the Messina Strait with the typical lemon granita (shaved ice), or the famous mezza con panna al caffè, a half glass of coffee-flavoured granita and cream.

CATANIA - SYRACUSE - CATANIA

After enyoing your buffet breakfast, it is time to depart for Syracuse. In Syracuse you will visit the archaeological area “Neapolis” including the famous Greek Theatre, Latomie of the Paradise and the “Orecchio di Dionisio ”.

Then, the tour will continue to the island of Ortigia, the small baroque old city centre of Syracuse, there you will see the Cathedral, which is built upon the site of the Temple of Minerva, the legendary Arethuse Fountain and the Temple of Apollo.

Today you will have your lunch at a restaurant in Ortigia. Following that, in the afternoon, you will return to Catania for a nice walking tour. During the tour in Catania you will stroll through the city centre with your professional guide who will charm you with the history of the city.

Returning back to your hotel in Catania you can enjoy a nice dinner and a good night's sleep. 

Greca Tip: If you like taking panoramic photos, go up to the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Ágata.

After savoring your tasty buffet breakfast, you will head to Modica, whose old town is considered a baroque treasure along with its alleys and historic shops, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and also known as "the city of chocolate".

Modica is a town with an ancient history, nicknamed "the city of 100 churches" and some of its most representative monuments, such as the Cathedral of San Pietro and the Church of San Giorgio, have been proclaimed also a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The tour will then continue with a visit inside the Artisan chocolate workshop; there you will have the chance to discover the techniques leading to the production of an amazing quality of "the Modican's chocolate".

Before the free time in Modica to explore the town and shopping, you will have the opportunity to enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant.

You will then check in at your hotel in Ragusa to relax before having your dinner.

Optionally, after dinner, you can have a "by night visit" to the ancient city “Ragusa Ibla", cradle of Sicilian baroque, with its Cathedral and the “giardino Ibleo”. Return to the hotel and overnight.

Note: the supplement for the optional tour is paid on the spot.

Finishig your lovely buffet breakfast, you will head to Piazza Armerina, one of Sicily's most frequented tourist spots, to visit the worldwide known Villa Romana del Casale, It was built in the middle of the 4th Century AD as a hunting lodge by a Roman patrician and home to some of the best preserved and extensive examples of Roman mosaics. It was almost completely covered by a landslide in the 12th Century and its magnificence partly rediscovered in the 19th century.  It is now  a UNESCO Heritage site, thanks to its well-preserved mosaics depicting mythological themes and hunting scenes.

Your lunch will be at a local restaurant with a special menu chosen to give the opportunity to taste the local specialties.

Then the time to depart to Agrigento has come. Agrigento is a hillside town, famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples, considered as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will have a guided tour of the Valley including the Temple of Concordia, which is in almost perfectly preserved condition, the temples of Juno and Heracles.

Following your buffet breakfast you will head to Selinunte the largest archaeological park in Europe, an area of 270 hectares with over 2.500 years of history written on it.

After a short visit to the “Eastern Hill” to see The Temple E in the best state of conservation of the entire archaeological area, and Temple G was the largest in all Hellenic archaeology.

Then the tour will proceed to a typical farmhouse producing olive oil for an oil tasting and a delicious lunch.

Finishing the lunch you will continue to Palermo, the capital of Sicily. At the arrival you will visit the town of Monreale, situated on a hill at few kms far from Palermo in panoramic position; the Cathedral, one of the most beautiful monuments of the world with its Moorish architecture, housing very fine mosaics representing a complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments, and the Benedictine Cloister in Arab-Norman style.

At the end of the tour, you will have dinner at your hotel in Palermo.

A DAY IN PALERMO

In the morning, after enjoying a buffet breakfast, you will dedicate time to visit the historical centre of the town, one of the largest in Europe. In the center you will see Martorana Church, Piazza Bellini, Piazza Pretoria, “I Quattro Canti di Città - the four corners”, making a pleasant walking along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the ancient “Cassaro”, Piazza Bologni, internal visit to the Cathedral  and the outside of Norman Palace.

It is a good opportunity to taste the Palermo’s street food at a typical local market. You will have the afternoon free to explore Palermo at your pace. 

Optionally, there is a chance to have a panoramic visit in the surroundings of Palermo: the “Palazzina Cinese” closed to the green park of “la Favorita” and Mondello, an ancient fishers village with a wonderful sand beach where you can taste a delicious ice cream.

You will then return to your hotel in Palermo and enjoy a delicious dinner.
