The rest of the day will be free for you to relax and start enjoying this stunning city.

Alternatively, you can join the Night Cruise on the Bosphorus with Dinner & Show or enjoy an hour's pampering at the Hamam Cimberlitas.

Greca Tip: You can also head to Ortaköy, the area for upmarket chic, where you will find a strip of stands serving kumpir, Turkey's answer to the jacket potato. Pick your spud and toppings and savour the seaside views while you eat on your feet.

ISTANBUL - ANKARA - CAPPADOCIA

In the morning, your English-speaking assistant will pick you up from your hotel to transfer you to Istanbul airport to board your flight to the capital of Turkey, Ankara. In Ankara you will visit the important Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and the Mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, a national hero and first president of the Republic of Turkey. At noon, you will continue to the magical and fascinating Cappadocia, where you will have dinner and rest.

CAPPADOCIA - CENTRAL ANATOLIA

After a filling breakfast, you will dedicate the entire day to this wonderful region and the Turkish cities of Kirsehir, Nigde and Kayseri.

You will start at the town of Uçhisar, its troglodyte villages and the Underground City of Kaymakli, one of the largest underground settlements in the region.  You will continue towards the Göreme Valley with its open-air museum, its churches carved into the rock and the beautiful frescoes on their walls. In the afternoon, you will visit the Pasabag Valley, with its amazing landscape of cave dwellings and famous limestone fairy chimneys and Avanos, a potterers' town with its countless pottery factories that date back to the Hittites. In this town an underground city was revealed only recently and consists of three floors, homes, tunnels and places of worship. In the late afternoon you will return to your hotel for dinner and a good rest.

Greca Tip: Remember that, inside the caves, flash photography is not allowed so as not to damage the wall paintings.

Early in the morning, and after a delicious breakfast, you will depart for Pamukkale, meaning 'cotton castle' in Turkish. On your way there you will stop at the Old Palace and Medieval Fort of Caravanserai, built along the trade route that once lead to Persia. Here, in former times, merchants from the east and west used to rest, stock up on supplies and socialize.

Upon your arrival, you will have free time to familiarize yourself with the city and maybe visit Pamukkale's travertine terraces or white calcium cascades formed by the activity of the hot thermal springs in the area. You will enjoy dinner and a good rest at your hotel.

Greca Tip: You may use your free time to take a dip in the thermal pool of your hotel.

You will have free time for lunch and later you will visit the pilgrimage site of Meryamana, the house of the Virgin Mary, believed to be her last resting place. You will continue to Ephesus, the ancient Roman capital of Asia Minor, where Cleopatra, Marc Anthony and the apostle Saint Paul once roamed its streets. In Ephesus, you will admire the ruins of the Odeon, the Arch of Hercules, the Library of Celsus, the Greco-Roman Theater as well as the Agora and the Basilica of Saint John. In the late afternoon you will be transferred to your hotel, check in, have dinner and rest.

9
FROM ATHENS TO OLIMPIA - CRADLE OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Today you will head towards the Corinth Canal, where you will stop briefly to marvel at this famous channel that connects the Aegean with the Ionian Sea and take some photos.  Corinth Canal is an impressive engineering feat as ships do not have to sail more than 400 km around the Peloponnese peninsula to reach the Ionian Sea any longer.

Past hills and mountains, you will reach Epidaurus, where you will be immersed in the culture of the 4th century BC. Its world famous Theater is the best preserved ancient theater in Greece. Its construction was not planned as a separate site but was part of the therapeutic and healing process, achieved through the theatrical performances.  Known for its acoustics, it has a capacity of about 16,000 spectators and is still in use, especially during the summer, where notable performances are staged by native and international artists.

Then, you will briefly stop at the first capital of Greece, Nauplion, and continuing your journey back in time, you will visit the Acropolis of Mycenae, the center of the Mycenaean civilization.  In the enclosure you will see its Cyclopean walls, the Lions Gate, various tombs of ancient kings, the Palace, the Cistern and its 99 steps underground, the Tomb of Egisto and the tomb of Clytemnestra, while next to the Acropolis you will see the Tomb, which is believed to have been the burial site of King Agamemnon.

In the late afternoon you will travel through central Peloponnese and arrive in the city of Olympia, where you will spend the night.

Greca Tip: Pamper yourself with the hotel's amenities or take a leisurely stroll in the beautiful surrounding nature.

FROM OLYMPIA TO THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD - DELPHI
10
FROM OLYMPIA TO THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD - DELPHI

In the morning you will visit the site of the old Olympic stadium, where the first games were held at around 776 BC. The importance of these games was evident, given the extensive participation of the Greek cities, which suspended hostilities throughout the celebrations. The Olympiad was recognized as the only chronological event all over Greece and, in essence, it represented the period of four years between two consecutive events.

Olympia was also the most important sanctuary of Ancient Greece, a place to worship Zeus, the first among the gods. The gigantic gold and ivory sculpture was crafted by Phidias was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

After your visit to the Museum of Olympia, you will continue your journey to Delphi by going across the suspension bridge of Rio - Antirion, a modern architectural wonder.

Upon your arrival at Delphi you will have dinner and rest.

Greca Tip: In the evening you can go in search of the traditional character of nearby Arachova and enjoy a drink in a stylish café or a local kafeneio (coffee shop).

FROM THE ORACLE TO METEORA, KALAMBAKA
11
FROM THE ORACLE TO METEORA, KALAMBAKA

In the morning and after a solid breakfast you will visit Delphi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the center or navel of the ancient world.  It was here where the renowned Oracle of Delphi, a counsellor of kings and pilgrims, took shelter. You cannot miss out on a visit to the museum, which houses the "bronze charioteer", a masterpiece of Greek sculpture.

At the end of our Delphi tour, you will leave the slopes of Mount Parnassus, and head towards the plains of Thessaly, where the city of Kalambaka is located.

Arrival in Kalambaka, dinner and accommodation.

Greca Tip: We suggest using your free time to visit the Temple of Athena Pronaia at Delphi.

FROM KALAMBAKA TO ATTICA - ATHENS
12
FROM KALAMBAKA TO ATTICA - ATHENS

Early in the morning you will visit Meteora, also recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1988.  In this mysterious landscape, the natural beauty is combined with the compelling presence of the eternal monasteries suspended or "meteora" on top of the huge rocks. Currently there are only six in use, five for the male and one for the female monastic community.

On the way back to Athens, you will pass by Thermopylae, where you can see the statue of the Spartan King Leonidas I, famous for leading the battle against the Persians in 480 BC. In the late afternoon you will arrive in Athens and check in at your hotel.

Greca Tip: Visit the Center for Historical Information in Thermopylae and find out about the historical events and the protagonists of the battle.
