Upon your arrival at the airport of Catania, the second-largest city in Sicily, we will meet you and transfer to your hotel.  The rest of the day will be free for you to relax and start enjoying the marvelous things that this city located on the eastern coast of this Italian southern island has to offer. Overnight stay in Catania.

Greca Tip: Walk up Via Etnea that connects Piazza Duomo to the foot of Etna, the immense volcano casting its shadow over Catania and admire the beauty of this city.

PICTURESQUE CATANIA!

You will have a nutricious breakfast at your hotel and then make your way to the starting point of the city tour in the city center. Your tour begins with the visit of the Stesicoro Square, where the Roman amphitheater of the second century is located. It is exceptionally well preserved in the classical style, with a capacity for 7,000 spectators complete with an orchestra pit and today partly submerged with water from the Amenano river, which was covered by lava during the eruption of 1669. Passing through Via Etnea, you will find Via dei Crociferi, one of the most beautiful baroque streets in Italy, full of churches, closed in the north by Villa Cerami (today the faculty of law) and in the south by the Arch of San Benedetto. You will then arrive at Plaza Università that presents the imposing Central Palace of the University. The tour continues to Plaza Vincenzo Bellini, famous for the Teatro Massimo, an opulent Baroque theatre dedicated to the Catanese opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, and then reaches Plaza Duomo, where you will meet “u liotru”, the elephant symbol of the city and the Duomo. Passing through the characteristic Pescheria (former fish market) you will head to Ursino Castle, today the headquarters of the civic museum of Catania.

You will have your afternoon to spend at your leisure. Overnight stay in Catania.

Greca Tip: Be sure to grab a freshly squeezed blood orange juice (spremuta d'arancia rossa) or a refreshing lemon granita all made with locally grown citrus.

You will enjoy a wholesome breakfast at your hotel and then depart to the Etna Volcano. Your first stop will be at the Rifugio Sapienza, where you will find out about the last eruptions and the old Wild Craters (Crateri Silvestri). You will walk along one of the trails of the Etna Park, with suggestive views of the Bove Valley. You will visit a lava cave with protective equipement, helmets and lamps. You will finish your tour with a delicious tasting of typical products in an organic farm, where you can also buy wine, honey and other products.

You will continue to Taormina, making a stop at the lovely "Isola Bella", a nature reserve known as "The Pearl of the Ionian" for its jungle beauty, joined to the mainland by a thin stretch of sand. Depending on the weather you will have free time to bathe in these crystalline waters and then enjoy your lunch.

The afternoon will be dedicated to the picturesque Taormina. Through its main street, Corso Umberto, located between the Catania and Messina Gates you can admire the most important monuments: Palazzo Corvaja (Museum of popular arts and traditions); the Greek Theater, Plaza IX Abril, Clock Tower, Fortezza Cathedral, Badia Vecchia, Palazzo Duca de Santo Stefano among others. You will also have the opportunity to make purchases in the exclusive shops.

You will return to Catania, where you will spend the night.

Greca Tip: You can taste one of Catania's signature dishes, pasta alla norma, invented in honour of Vincenzo Bellini’s famous opera and made with a basic tomato sauce topped with fried eggplant and covered in shaved ricotta.

You will enjoy breakfast at your hotel and the depart to Syracuse. The tour will begin with a visit to the archaeological park of Neapolis, which houses most of the Greek and Roman monuments of Syracuse. It is the most representative area of ​​this ancient Greek city, with large expanses of green and a path drawn by the ancient Roman road that leads to the main archaeological monuments: The Greek Theater, is still used for classical music concerts, the Roman Amphitheater, The Latomia del Paraíso with the "Ear of Dionysus" and the Cave of the Cordari, the Altar of Hero, and the church of San Nicola di Cordaro. Continuing to Ortigia, the soul of Syracuse, between Greek temples and Christian churches, Aragonese palaces and Baroque palaces, courtyards, Arabic alleys, shops and small squares, you will visit the splendid Fountain of Aretusa and the Duomo Square surrounded by baroque palaces. You will have free time for lunch and in the afternoon you will continue with a visit of Noto, on the slope of the Meti hill, in the southern slopes of the Hyblaean mountains.  Designed as a large theatre without wings, it is an authentic jewel of the Sicilian baroque style and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The center of Noto is a true open-air museum and you will be amazed by the numerous palaces and churches, nicknamed "the stone garden", as you walk along the main street "Corso Vittorio Emanuele".

You will return to Catania to rest and spend the night.

Greca Tip: From the bell tower of Santissimo Salvatore church you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Noto.

FROM CATANIA TO MALTA

After your breakfast you will have a free time to catch up with any of the things you wanted to do before leaving the city of Catania. At the agreed time, we will transfer you to Catania airport for your flight to Malta, the country which is actually an archipelago that sits in the Mediterranean Sea and is close to both neighboring Sicily and Africa.

Upon your arrival at Luqa Malta airport we will meet and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day will be free to walk in its streets that will take you past churches, markets, and museums, and some of the oldest buildings in the world.

Greca Tip: In St John's Cathedral look out for the decorative frescoes depicting scenes from the Bible and on the marble tombstone floor the 400 monuments in honor of the knights.

EXPERIENCE MYTHICAL MALTA: VALLETTA

You will enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then join the regular Valleta excursion. This will begin by walking through the vibrant streets of Valletta, which will allow you to discover the charm and beauty of this fortified city built by the St John’s Knights in 1566. The Order of Knights reigned the islands for 268 years leaving a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the main example. First you will visit the Upper Barracca Gardens, from where you will admire a panoramic view of the Grand Port. You will continue towards the Cathedral of Saint John and the Oratory that contains the magnificent paintings of Caravaggio, the Flemish tapestries and the church museum. This cathedral boasts one of the most exceptional marble floors in the world. Going down the Republic street you will pass the Palace of the Grand Masters, once the home of the knights and the impressive armory room, which houses a collection of more than 5,000 armors and weapons, once belonging to the knights and grand masters.  Past the recently restored St. George's Square you will finish the tour with the audiovisual show of the Experience of Malta, in which you will learn a little more about the history of Malta through the ages.

You will return to your hotel and have a free afternoon to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of this beautiful mediterranean island.

Greca Tip: Try the famous street food Pastizzi, a savoury pea- or ricotta-filled pasty, eaten as street food or a bar snack accompanied by a glass of house red wine.

MALTA'S FORMER CAPITAL - MEDINA

Today, after your breakfast, you will join the regular excursion of Medina, a fortified city loved for its charm and quiet streets. This excursion will take you to the central part of Malta dominated by the medieval fortress of Medina, the ancient capital of Malta. Its narrow streets dating back to the medieval times will lead you to the imposing bastions that command magnificent views of the island. Walking through its streets you will discover the different architectural styles of its buildings such as the Norman and Baroque, all of great importance. It was called “Citta Notabile”, the noble city and also known as the "Silent City", where time has stood still, a home to many historical monuments and a paradise for film producers.

Leaving Medina through the Greek Gate, you will make a stop at the Christian catacombs in Rabat, before heading towards the cliffs of Dingli, the highest point of the Maltese Islands, at around 253 metres above sea-level. You will have time for lunch and then will visit the Saint Anthony Gardens, located near the Presidential Palace, which you can admire from the outside. You will have the opportunity to visit the handicraft center of Ta Qali, where you can watch the craftsmen blowing and shaping glass objects, the goldsmiths working at beautiful filigree jewellery and others creating beautiful sculptures and ‘bobbin lace’. You will conclude the tour with a visit to the impressive Mosta church, which boasts one of the largest domes in Europe.

Back to your hotel your will have the evening free at your leisure.

Greca Tip: You can go down to the old moat, which has been turned into a garden. From here you will be able to see the impressive ramparts from the bottom.
