Excursion Itinerary: Colosseum And Roman Forum - In The Afternoon

IMPERIAL ROME
IMPERIAL ROME

The tour begins with a visit inside the Colosseum, the most famous monument in the world and the main symbol of Rome. This visit will take us back in time to discover what the ancient society of the Roman Empire was like. Inside, the guide will give us a fascinating presentation of the cruel events that took place there, clarifying how this architectural ingenuity worked and answering all your curiosities.

During the Roman Empire and under the motto of "Pan et Circus", the Roman Colosseum (known then as the Flavian Amphitheater) allowed more than 50,000 people to enjoy their favorite shows. After the completion of its construction, it became the largest Roman amphitheater, measuring 188 meters in length, 156 meters in width and 57 meters in height.

The Emperor Titus inaugurated it with 100 days of games, which cost the lives of more than 2,000 gladiators. The original name "Flavian Amphitheater" was replaced by the Colosseum due to the large statue of Nero that was located at the entrance of the Domus Aurea: "The Colossus of Nero". Exotic animal displays, prisoner executions and gladiator fights accompanied the Roman people for years.

Once outside, we will visit the surrounding monuments such as the Arch of Constantine, the largest arch of triumph preserved in Rome.

Next, we will access the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, an archaeological zone, whose unique historical, monumental and archaeological values are a world reference.

Just for the views from the Palatine, through the Forums or the Circus Maximus, it would be worth a trip to Italy, but the highlights of this place of singular beauty are infinite, where several temples and Arches of Triumph alternate with the House of the Vestals, the Senate Chamber, the Capitol Palace and the Via Sacra.

Greca Tip: We suggest wearing comfortable shoes.
