FROM ATHENS TO DELPHI, THE NAVEL OF THE ANCIENT WORLD AND METEORA

Having arrived early in the morning in the port of Piraeus, one of our vehicles will drive you to the center of Athens to embark on our 2-day excursion to Delphi & Meteora.

Departing Athens, the landscape begins to transform from arid to majestic and imposing, passing through the tragic area of Thebes to the slopes of Mount Parnassus, after Arahova. Under two gigantic rocks, the Fedriades, and on an impressive cliff, the famous oracle of Delphi was founded in antiquity in honor of Apollo, God of harmony, of music and guardian of the sacred laws of Zeus. For the ancients, Delphi was the center of the world, the so-called "navel" of the Earth.

From its beginnings, the Oracle acquired great influence throughout the world, the predictions of Pythia - the priestess of Apollo, influenced notably in decision making and sometimes had a great impact on the history of cities and ancient states. The god spoke through his priestess in an incomprehensible language that only she could interpret.

Then, we will cross the Sacred Way up to the Temple of Apollo with the innumerable offerings made by different Greek and foreign cities. We will also visit the Treasury of the Athenians, one of the most important buildings found on this Sacred Way, as well as the sanctuary dedicated to Athena Pronaia. We will also visit the museum, one of the most important in Greece, where the "omphalos" or navel of the world belonging to the Roman period can be found. Moreover, it houses the impressive "charioteer of bronze", a masterpiece of Greek sculpture which even today impresses the visitor. After visiting, we will leave the slopes of Mount Parnassus, where Delphi is located, to head towards the plains of Thessaly where the city of Kalambaka is located.

Arrival to Kalambaka, dinner and accommodation.

FROM KALAMBAKA TO ATTICA - ATHENS

Early in the morning we will visit Meteora, also recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site since 1988, where the natural beauty of the region is combined with the eternal monasteries suspended or "meteora" on top of the huge rocks. Currently there remain only six in use, five for the male and one for the female monastic community.  On the way back to Athens, we will pass by Thermopylae, where we can see the statue of the Spartan King Leonidas I, famous for leading the battle against the Persians in 480 BC. Back to Athens in the afternoon and drop off to your hotel.
